The History of Mark Mardell Salon
The Mardell family have been hairdressing in Dartford since 1932, establishing it as the longest serving hairdressers in North Kent!
Mark’s Grandfather Reginald Mardell first opened a very successful barber shop in Lowfield Street under the name of Mardell’s, and Mark's Grandmother Rene Mardell open the ladies salon upstairs as in those days ladies and gents never had their hair done together.
In 1979 Reginald Mardell retired and passed the business down to his son (Mark’s father) Melvyn Mardell. Melvyn continued trading on Lowfield Street until 2005 when he was asked to leave due to a new development. At this point Melvyn decided to retire and Mark Mardell re-opened a new shop in The Priory Shopping Centre.
Mark traded at The Priory Centre as Mardell’s, the still successful barber shop until 2006 when he decided to expand in the unisex market. He worked on building the business to a unisex salon and stayed there until he couldn’t build any further due to lack of space.
In 2011 Mark moved the successful unisex salon to 1 Market Street in Dartford and changed the name from Mardell’s to Mark Mardell. The team progressed and trade grew. We have been trading here successfully since...
In May 2015 we had a water leak over night which shut the salon for just over 8 months. It has been a very trying time for all the team at Mark Mardell. We are delighted to be now back up and running again with a new look and a beauty treatment room was added as an extra service for our clients.
